Hi everyone

I forgot yesterday was a Saturday and failed to look at the crossword, so I started this morning and got 2d and 3d quite quickly. These gave me 17ac. Then I noticed the special instruction. Do I have to add a theme word or take one out?

I confess that I'm now on Codeine for the pain in my hand, and not very with it. But I do have a new cast.

I'll be back with questions later if I've managed to stay awake.

The wordplay for the across clues doesn't include the thematic, so you need to add it.
Sorry to hear about the headache. I hope it's not caused by the crossword!

I managed to get a couple more, but then decided my head is too woolly from the drugs and gave up.

Perhaps my hand will be be less painful next week and I can focus better.
