20 I think the first three letters of the answer come from 'a'! That and what you have will give you a famous classical musician.

"A" as in "apiece", the musician is a famous violinist

reverse hobbling + afresh "drained" (vacated) to get a word meaning "of blood"

strut is extra; "on" as in "on television". Bending brackets (surrounds) abbrev. for "acting"

2. 'Afresh drained' gives you two letters
Hobbling - gives you four letters, an adjective, that's reversed, revolutionary.
Of blood = definition.

Kirky, the target is IN the grid - ' can be identified by using one letter from each of the across clues with extra words'. That's what gets changed, making real words, to get/show the real name.

In full the real name and pseudonym have the same letter count, so the letters are swapped (all of the across answers to clues containing extra words give the letters of the pseudonym).

...well that really surprises me, malone - not only did I go back to the thread before I posted, I also refreshed it before sending my answer a second or two later (when I saw there were hadn't been any reply in the interval). How can there possibly be an ELEVEN minute delay between our posts?
