Yes, Buddy, my @22 is very British and I should have remembered our several non-UK setters.

The late Tommy Cooper was a comedian/deliberately failing magician whose trademarks were a fez and a catchphrase: 'Just like that!' to indicate the conclusion of a trick. I am suggesting that phrase to be the equivalent of another, perhaps uniquely British, phrase: 'at the drop of a hat', meaning 'immediately, on the smallest provocation'. A bit tenuous!

No problem, always glad to learn something useful-ish. I have spent a few decades learning the ins & outs of Scots words (who is Rab C.?), Spenserian and Shakespearean spellings (Ed and Will), British train stations, etc as I work the cryptics. I do dream of creating one with nothing but references to Friends and Seinfeld as well as sacrifice bunts, the infield fly rule and the intricacies of the electoral college and Plan B free agency in the NFL, and letting you all have a crack at it.
