Hi Mattrom,

That's what I've got "meadow, esp. one beside a river" but I still don't understand the "Don" reference - Don as in.....?

I've just 33a - it's an anagram of a word in the clue + (dr)U(nk) +L(eft) - I think!

There is a river called Don in Yorkshire and Europe.

Ahhh, got it - I was wondering why a mafia Don was moving by a river😂

Initially I thought of Trump for 32d.
I think that works for 33a.

I know what you mean Mattrom, that's the the thing with "don", there are so many possibilities...is it a college lecturer, a mafia capo, an abbreviation of Donald, perhaps indicating a Scottish word, a verb meaning "to wear" or, as you say - Donald Trump, maybe indicating an Americanism - It covers a lot of ground for such a short word!

All done (I think). I can only find one word which will fit at 36 across, but I cannot parse it. Hint please.

Original answer is a word for 'responding to' with the C moved.
Def. is in Chambers as 'being the first actor to play (a certain role).
