Anyone for tennis!!

This a themed crossword from Boatman although, in all honesty, knowing the theme didn't help me much at all.

I can't say I enjoyed this but maybe I just wasn't in the mood. I definitely wasn't on Boatman's wavelength and found some of the parsing quite tortuous.

I found this very difficult and I still haven't parsed 9a (why is Boatman AB?), 26a and 22d although I'm pretty sure of my answers.

13d is a term I've never heard and wonder if anyone outside the medical profession will know it.

COD I'll give to 22a - he's not getting me down:-)

All in all I found this a real slog and foresee a lively thread discussion.

Thanks to Boatman.

Stay safe:-)

Hi brendan

Having entered what had to be the solution for 26a, I stared at it for ages trying to parse it. You have to split the first word of the clue into two.

22d is a synonym of the verb ‘match’ less a compass point, and then the even letters of part of the clue.

Actually, looking over this again, I think I judged it too harshly - there really is some excellent and precise cluing and it's definitely growing on me:-)

Could someone give me some hints for 15a "Spenser's miscalled on return of serve"?

Many thanks!

I've just got that one, I think!
The definition is "serve". If you read the word backwards you get another word that Spenser presumably used?

Any hints for 1d and 24a please?

OK, just seen 1d. That leaves 24a
Heads out of danger zone, hunting out a beast (4)
D?H?
Is it an animal of some sort?

Got that one too - rather an unlikely word!
I found this very hard and not a lot of fun.
