I think that I've completed this. Could anyone confirm that 9 of the further letters to be shaded are the answer to the down clue in the central column. If not I only have the "obvious " 18.

I feel like I'm missing something about the endgame because there are 4 other letters on the right side of the grid that are mirrored on the left, besides the "obvious 9". Not sure why these wouldn't be shaded as well.

Hi, Buddy. The problem is that if there are 9 left after the obvious 18, how these can be symmetrically placed. I've gone for the middle column, taking the answer literally?

Just realised that the literal meaning would mean removing it and not sharing it, so still unsure.

I meant "shading" not "sharing ".

The result looks like something in the title ?

I agree that the 27 cell result does resemble the title, but the additional letters (EELN) meet the requirements of the undefined entries. Another example of a fine crossword spoilt a little by, in my humble opinion, no explanation of this ambiguity.

I think we need to look closely at the letters, gitto (your extras don't work).

I am in awe of you lot. I’ll never reach your standards but I like to try. Would one of you like to start me off by offering some kind of help with 1a? I don’t know what the definition is, or if it’s a themed entry with no definition.

It's the wiki one, jogamel - the obvious anag , including S(pecial) outside of a 5 letter synonym for 'plot' (chart?).
