Thanks, yes a fraction untidy if the "it" is indeed superfluous. That 's why I tried to include it.

Whatever happens, i agree a superb puzzle.

I've just had a look at the EV blog on 15squared - it has MEM in the empty cells and I expect the printed solution in the 'i' will too.

Well done to those (the majority, I think) who got it right - not me though!

I hope the 'alternative' version at least gets a mention over there...

Thanks for that. Was there any mention of the extra "IT" which some of us tried to incorporate?

There were no other posts when I first looked, grunger - now there are lots of them (the IT wasn't part of the solution, just a remnant). It looks like the appeal paid off.

...'IT' was mentioned by cruciverbophile, and the setter (Wickball) gave the answer.

...can't believe only 35 entries? I must be very unlucky if this is the normal figure...and as i said on 15x15 i've not seen the same people winning over and over ??

Sudokulover, it's not the normal figure - it seems it's many more! This is a quote from the setter Wickball:-

"....this was the first EV to have a double digit response for over a year".

Got it, that makes much more sense.

Thirty-five does seem a ridiculously low number of entries.

ive looked back at the winners over the last year (i know, i know ...nothing better to do haha!) and there are 48 different winners!! 4 won twice...and incidentally i only recognise 1 winner as a setter.

No idea where the figure of 35 comes from ??
