Straightforward grid fill, and I note an interesting (if unlikely) possibility regarding the 12 blanks ... but as usual in the case of popular songs my mind goes blank. I can't see any likely names either - presumably each is a single line horizontally or vertically.

The only songwriter of note that I can see is in column 1 but his usual partner does not seem to be in the grid. Then again my knowledge of popular music is pretty 8D. Am I on the wrong track?

Yes, buddy - you're on the wrong track (and 'songwriters of note', might be pushing it, too).

Found the duo but they certainly have a lot of songs to choose from. Since I have no interest in listening to their entire catalog I think I'll put this in the win column for Artix & move on.
