Not that problem specifically, 0pt0, but my first two attempts at refilling the grid led to me running into an occupied cell somewhere along the way. It's very hard keeping track of the entries because the completed grid consists of random letters, and if you take your eye off the ball for a moment you can lose your place. If all your answers are correct and you do the refill correctly, you shouldn't have any clashes.

Opt0 - A pain - but you probably will have to go over phase 2 again - 4th letter of 32A is much further in grid than 2nd of 14A (you say entering last but there is still 34A?...

Thanks loge. I have already had 4 attempts at stage 2 and I reach the same impasse every time. Either I can't count or one of my answers must be wrong. Back to the drawing board!

Thanks crates. For some reason, I thought that we would not have to enter the clued place names, but I realise now that this is not the case.

For what it’s worth, I felt that the only way I could avoid going wrong in the second grid was to write all the words on a separate piece of paper and under each letter write its value, and under that put a running total indicating where the next letter would go. It worked!

Probably unlikely - but as you say all fine till 4th letter of 32A ....might be worth checking from your third letter of 32A - as might be you didn't move down a row???

I got there in the end.
By using 5 different colour pencils, and colour coding the answers! Kept going wrong... so had to turn off the radio, no coffee or snacks, and really focus for 30 mins! Keeping the brain going in lockdown, certainly.

I'm way behind. I finished the initial grid fill yesterday but can't parse 16ac - I'm presuming the unch is an A. Any help gratefully received.
Judging from the comments people have made about Phase 2, I think I shall avoid it as it appears too much like hard work!

Gazzar, Yes, an A. A word for a jacket minus the Z.
Rab is the Scots' shortened form of Robert, so it's a Scots word for 'blue' (in Chambers) with an R at the end - rather (more?) blue.
