I'm stuck in NW corner -
1a United correctly directed to hang on to apprentice (6) -A--ED
1d To Shakespeare's readers mean imperfect collection of texts (6)
--ME-T
3d Traditionally Chinese resident, although in past (5) -AND- : this looks as if could be HANDY, with HAN for Chinese, but can't see how to parse the clue.

1a is an obscure def - 'United correctly' - it is app for apprentice.
1d 'mean' = moan for Shakespeare.
3 is an animal from China - 'han' isn't part of the answer ('although' = and.)
