Hi kirky

23a The placing of the comma in the clue is misleading. The wordplay is "Seemingly good" + "bad mostly" & the whole word is a synonym for "hairy".

2d Try "coo" rather than "cor" as your expression of surprise.

Hope these help.

Stumped!

I've done all the clues but ferreting in my ODQ yields nought.

Am I at a significant disadvantage having only the fourth edition?

Vinsculler, I didn't use ODQ and got the puzzle done fairly quickly, so I don't think it's vital!

Perhaps you're having the same problem I had - the index doesn't link any of the key words to the quote, but the full quote is there in the 7th edition (is there an entry for H Pearson in the body of the 3rd edition as well?).

I finished it all without ODQ as well, so I thought it was a bit perverse when I had to use google to get the author's name (not a requirement of the puzzle) when I'd been given a source containing the quote!
