What could be missing letters be in [ A E O S]?

Letters from other answers to clues appear correct, but am not completely sure.

Sense = NOUS

I had indeed thought that it was RAVENOUS, but could not be sure how to parse it.

After reading your replies, when it was pointed out that it was RAVE and NOUS, I did a quick search and found that it could be parsed as suggested in the replies.

Thanks again for stimulating my mind to look at the word as made up of RAVE and NOUS.
