Bit stuck on one patch. Any help appreciated:

37a: Hollow black blocks arrive (5) C***E
29a: Tried to get boss across river (5) E*A*D

32 Combe, hollow, valley etc. Come, arrive, with B, black inside.

29 Heard, tried (in court,say) Head, boss, with R, river, inside.

32d romance

Thanks malone and xwordfan for your help. I had Romance but was unable to parse it, so an explanation would help.
I see I've got one wrong, malone, for "heard". My E comes from "teaser" the answer to 28d: Drink from tea service? No crime in that!
It seemed too simple, tea service less vice. I must learn life is not that simple.

I think 32 is Roman +CE are the churches in schism, Romance is the medieval narrative.
