(Selfishly going for an early start since my daughter has kidnapped the dog, so I don't have to "Skye-walk" in the morning, and can have a lie-in).
Welcome to Clueless, our informal weekly clue-setting competition.
The idea is to compose a cryptic clue to a given word or phrase.
The winner of the previous week's competition both sets the word to be clued and judges the entries for the current week.
The judge's decision is final and reasons may or may not be given at the judge's discretion. It is customary for the judge to award a virtual prize to the winner.
Multiple entries may be submitted and new competitors are particularly welcome.
Clues should be submitted by 07:00 GMT on Wednesday 1st January. (I would normally conclude the previous sentence with "with the winner to be announced shortly after" but , at present, have no idea where I'm going to be at that time).
The answer to be clued is:
AULD LANG SYNE (4,4,4)
(Note to setters who may use homophones: despite what you may hear from some attempted renditions of the song, there is no letter 'Z', and should be no sound of such letter, in the word "syne". Annoys the zhit out of me when people do it).
Have fun and feel free to explain your clue, especially if particularly convoluted or obscure. Otherwise I'll probably have to annoy you by asking for a parse.
