A few years ago you posted that you visited La Palma on one of your fern expeditions. Although we have only a passing interest in ferns we do like to travel. I would be very grateful for your tips on the best way to visit the island and the nicest place to stay.

We have always stayed in the Hacienda San Jorge is Los Cancajos:

Interesting place - it's a series of buildings surrounding a botanic garden! Food isn't great, but there are several places to eat nearby. The beach cafe doesn't look much but the seafood is excellent.
Los Cancajos is quite near the airport. It's on the east - the west side is drier and sunnier.
You would need to hire a car to make the most of the island, though there are buses as well.
