9a An anagram of 'About + Privies' and the definition is a saying meaning 'premature'.

22d Three letter word meaning 'support' (think golf) around 2 letter abbreviation of another name fora Personnel dept.

18d Definition = Crazy - Usual abbr. for Daughter + a 6 letter word meaning 'escaped'.

17a Undergarment is one worn (mostly!!) by women minus it's first letter - gives a 4 letter word meaning 'current' (as in the tides)

Think I had 21a wrong. Not a name of someone in Monty Python. At this stage would so appreciate the answers.

Thanks everyone who for your contributions - it's been very enjoyable and interesting reading.

It's clear that some solvers can find particular clues easy while others might find the same ones difficult, and that's no bad thing.

Overall though, I think I was correct in my original assessment that this is one of the most difficult for a while. That's not a criticism, just more of an observation.

Also, judging from the lack of negative comments, I'd say it was enjoyed by all, so well done setter:-)
