How do you get the partition please? (I have the extra letters phrase)

Hi kirky.

I think 'partition' is a bit misleading - it's just the outline of the simple shape that has to be coloured in.

(Unless I've missed some oblique meaning.)

The shape is a sign that all qualified drivers will have displayed on the vehicle they are driving at some time.

None of the letters within the shape are M to Z.

27a, 39a and 23d are the only non-partition-crossing words that appear within the shape.

There are "24 solutions which do not cross the partition".
I took this to mean that these solutions are either wholly or partly contained within the bounds of the partition but 19a clearly flouts this condition.

I thought 'Partition' was going to lead to something grander.

Muraria, I don't really understand your comment about 19 A. The answer DOES cross the partition and the clue doesn't lead to an extra letter. I think my 24 solutions are wholly out or wholly inside the partition.
