i've used the extra letters to fill the blanks and can see the artist and his creation......but what does the last sentence of the preamble mean ??

... Googling quickly alerts you to an item in the creation that has drawn a lot of speculation (appropriately shaped).

scarlett - there are as many blank squares as there are relevant clues - look at the range of those clues (and look for the same in the picture).

I am still working on the initial filling in of the blanks before moving on to the end game but what is not helping is that Chambers Word Wizard seems to be playing up. Is anybody else having problems in that direction?

Thank you for that Sunray. I now have a completed initial grid and the picture enlarged in front of me but I am still being my usual dense self. I can see the various items but, despite all the various excellent hints on this thread, I am not seeing the endgame. Is, as been suggested, a monogram to be entered?
