30a. hammer extra double definition.
36a. garland extra, legions with r moving left.

Thanks again, ginge. That does help, but my problem is with the third one: H????OP.

The only words I can find to complete that are:
HARDBOP, HARDTOP, HENCOOP, HIGHTOP and HILLTOP and none of those can be made using the letters supplied. So maybe a proper noun but I'm in the dark there.

FInished! I would have done so on Sunday if I'd got the correct 16 letters. I got the wrong G from 13a and I was suspicious because I thought there were two extra letters in it - one dropping into war separate owns (answer in separate). I also examined Holbein's The Ambassadors along the way.
