It must be the obvious holy city with 5 letters, beginning M ending A, but I can’t get the wordplay and omitted letter to work.

Hi cloverjo, A is omitted MC is the IVR for Monaco.

And of course, as soon as I posted I saw my mistake. I had Morocco as MA instead of the other abbreviation.

Monaco's abbrev can be MC ec inside it and A is the extra
