You didn't need to progress any further if you had the artist.

I've now got 28: 'fish' was nearly right, but the beating was more American, and not in my Bradford or Chambers' Thesaurus.

Hi minnime. Thought someone would have come in by now to confirm (or not) that Liszt was ok for No. 52. Famous composer? Hear, hear! (5)

Also seems that no more ideas for No 21 Ducks and drakes use to bust the dam. (8) I think I will go with Bombings.

Note - all answers have a silent letter(s).

Hi Jennifer, I'm not doing this quiz but I've seen it answered as "skimming" - Ducks and Drakes is used to describe the pastime of skimming stones (see below) and the bouncing bombs skimmed along the surface of the water - and one of the M's could be silent?

Noun
ducks and drakes (uncountable)

A pastime of throwing flat stones across water so as to make them bounce off the surface.

Hi Brendan, I think you are right and I'm going with the skimming idea but instead putting skimmers as that is what the ducks and drakes are (plural) - skimmers used to bust the dam.
Thanks for making me decide.

Just logged on and been looking at clues to various questions.

I am stuck on three:
16. Sympathy strike with left - in the main (7). I see clues have been given but can’t quite work it out! 3 letter word for sympathy strike = ? Out ??? And port = left on a ship. If this is right still don’t get the answer??

62. Appear a lot richer. How? There’s no answer to that (10,8)
Any clues please?

Finally 79. Harvest-time goes away in song (6,6). Any clues please?

Re no. 21, think I am going with ‘ricochet’ bearing in mind ‘Seen but not heard”.

Thanks.

79. When is Harvest time? + a word for 'goes away'.
21. I am also going with Ricochet.

Many thanks Minnime ... worked out the lot now. A quick check over, go over my pencil words in ink, and will send it off.
