Wow just finished it after in between writing a chairman's address and a secretary's address for an AGM. Don't know which was harder. After reading all the threads (post solve) I was relieved to see it wasn't age catching up with me. To those saying they'll never look at Everyman again... don't go. Just enjoy the masochism and think what your doing to keep a truly independent paper going.

i completely agree that people should not be deterred from doing the Everyman on the basis of last week's puzzle. As Elle, Mamya and others have pointed out, the regular setter has retired and the Observer seems to be trying out different replacements. So far the crosswords have been at all ends of the scale but I feel sure it will settle back to it's previous level in due course.
