Sofry - just reviewd #4 and remembered that the Dauntless was a WW2 dive bomber, so would prefer clue to read:

Dauntless diver landed a bomb and flew away (9)

Not sure whether "flew away" is acceptable as a subtraction indicator - it gives the impression that "flew" is the word to remove.

@Pedagogue - just my opinion, but 'in retirement' and 'flew away' both mean to me what you intended. I've seen the former used in crosswords. And, as you point out, the latter has the embedded cunning of misdirection, ie that we might think 'flew' is being removed or anagrammated.

(PS This is not a comment on the clues per se, as we don't prior to the deadline for entries.)

Hi Pedagogue, can I check my parsing for #10?
Plucky lawyer takes on Department 650
I'm taking it as

DA, lawyer + RE, on + D, department......+ VI (6) + L (50)
so I'm missing an E
