I'm having trouble with a couple of long ones that look odd -- could the seemingly easy 16 across be wrong? First, 14d, Those picking up signals there's evidence of wailing in the synagogue? I have ??H?I? E??? Then 5d: Tree -- positive thing planting 50×2. ?L???--??P?G
I'll be really happy to know what those could be.

I don't do this puzzle, but I've seen 5 answered. It's a tree - and your P is wrong.

Hi Chrise

I'm having trouble getting going with this one. I got the easy 16ac staright away and then the tree, but which spelling should it be? I'm struggling with 14ac., which I assume is a movie star.

Any hints gratefully received and for 17d:

Bird which occupies nest until chicks hungry primarily (8)

I have it beginning with N

Hi roof

I'm embarrassed to say that I have an answer for 17d, but I have a very partial parse. I am looking forward to whatever others might contribute!

For 14, could I trigger a response?

17d I have a bird beginning with N.
I can parse part of it but not all.
Nothing else fits!

14a Pink wine shortened, around name for radio code 'understood' plus an 'unknown' letter.
Hope that makes sense!

I haven't done the puzzle, but 17 D looks like...
Four letters for 'which' inside(occupies) ' ……. primarily', the usual. (I expect you've all got the same bird!)
