No need to apologise Malone, I only mentioned it in the context of musical notation. I wish I hadn’t!

Thanks for that. If wind is good enough for Grey and his lowing herd, it is good enough for me.

Paul

In the clue I think "gaining" is unnecessary if the answer is wend, but necessary if it is wind.

Malone

Yes, coming back from the pub involves a more curving and bending route than going there! That reminds me - have I told you that I sometimes leave home, walk a hundred yards, turn 90 degrees and then walk backwards for 40 yards. There is a rational explanation for this!

I have thought long and hard but haven't come up with any rational explanation for your rather strange journey. Please reveal all.

Jono,

I don't hold you personally responsible for that clue, so felt free to use 'underwhelmed'!

Walking backwards implies you’re dragging something. Putting the bins out perhaps..??

Chrise ... we all know how much you like the use of `epicentres` in reporting - what do you make of `zombie fires` in the Arctic?

Not heard that one, tyke - what on earth are they trying to say?

I believe that refers to a fire that while thought to have been extinguished has in fact smouldered away under the snow and ice all winter and reignites in the summer when the snow disappears.
