The is/are debate part two.

A headline today in my local newspaper reads WHAT WE NEED ARE LONG TERM FIXES.

If that seems all right to you, take out "long term" and get "What we need are fixes." It should be "is".

Slightly different to the is/are issue - I am sick of footballers/managers saying "that was a great 3 points".

Where has this "That was a poor mistake" rather than a "bad" one come from. Even the Times had this nonsense a few days ago.

I was pleased that the Times Champ solved the final puzzle in 5 mins 57 secs. I completed the grid in a mere 4 mins. I suppose having the answers helped.

I get fed up of football managers `going to their place` and `getting a result`

Well done … but a slight flaw there!

With "elite" football cancelled, I watched a local Cup-tie in the park, with the proverbial 2 men and a dog. Reds 4-0 up with 10 mins to go. Then a mass brawl and a Red sent-off. Blues scored a wind-assisted goal from an indirect free for offside (no-one noticed) then 2 penalties. All hell broke loose and a last minute equaliser ruled out, so 4-3.

This will bring the crowds back - but perhaps thats not a good idea at the moment.

Sounds like a good game! I was reduced to watching Salford v Wigan last night (on Sky) ... I can only assume that the Rugby League lads are so tough that any viral infection gives up and chooses an easier target.

An old friend was an answer in yesterday's EV, in the Sunday Telegraph - Focsle. It- and Bosun, Bo'sun, Bo's'n and Bos'n - lead to some discussion last year.
