Sources tell me that `Wombwell Whippet Fanciers` are revolting ... no change there then.

That was very funny. You get the same nonsence with the LSE and ECB. I saw some members of the Where's Wally Fraternity at a Test Match last year, they were sitting between groups of nuns and St Trinians girls. They didn't seem to be hiding though.

Glad your son is a sports fan. I did some market research (at the market) and nobody had heard of the wrestling body, which disappointed me. A couple of people had heard of the Wildlife Fund and knew about the panda.

Yes, lets hope the misappropriated funds are reappropriated appropriately.

I am glad that it is not just pigeons that get fancied. I was hoping to go to Tranmere v Watford tonight , but it was never likely to be on with the recent heavy rain, as you know. Will have to settle for Spurs - Middlesbro on TV.

I suppose that was in the "Party Stand" at Old Trafford. I keep as far away from it as possible - other side in the Family Stand.

Am I the only person to have picked up 2 grammatical errors in Prince Harry’s heartfelt speech this evening? I’m surprised there hasn’t been an outcry on the PU site!! ....... plus an Americanism.... gotten instead of got.
Enough.

I hadn't known about Prince Harry's speech until you mentioned it. True pedant that I am, I went off in hot pursuit of the grammatical errors - and they didn't take much tracking down! People - many, many people - opt for the '...Meghan and I' approach even when, as in Harry's case, it's the wrong one.

I've just realised I missed the 'gotten'. Americanisms sometimes bother me and they sometimes don't - I try to make allowances for language evolving, words and phrases being absorbed over the years.

Have a nice day!

Pleased to read on another thread that you have acquired a boat. Do you require a coxswainess? I loved the "protectress" clue the other day in the Times, and all the other -ess ones that have appeared recently after the setters got inspiration from this thread.

Morning, Grunger

Thanks for the kind offer, but I'll cope without a coxswainess. I think I missed the 'protectress'.

I was able to have a PU huff and puff this morning, when I was reading about the Duchess of Cambridge's visit to a children's centre. Here's a quote from Kate - 'And everyone else is like, "I haven't [slept] either.'

'Everyone else is like...' - horrible!

Hello, Malone,
I agree, I dislike "is like", very much!
Another pet hate is folk making a remark which ends in the word "not".
For instance, if it was raining heavily, they may say,
"What a beautiful day, not"
It grinds my gears!

Thanks. I've been away all day and am now just catching up with myself. I share your dislike of 'not' - it's only a small word but it has a big effect on me!

Hello, Malone!
I thought you were away somewhere.
Poor Diablos had to wait for an hour for someone to help him!
I find "not" users a blooming pain!
