Hi elle
m is used for "mass", but is a variable, not a constant (important difference!) c is a constant, though

Hi, Chris!
I thought "mass " - defined as the amount of matter present in a body - was a constant, whereas "weight" varied, since the force of gravity varies.
Maybe it depends on whether mass is defined as "inertial" or "gravitational"?
But please don't blind me with science, as it's far too long since I did "A" level Physics!
I'll just stay in blissful ignorance!

bozherald explained in post 9 re his error so the m by itself is irrelevant.

Hi again elle
In an expression like (to take a simple one)
F=ma
the m can take any value, thus affecting the acceleration as a result of the force applied
For a given body, the same "m" appears in the equation giving the gravitational force, so it cancels out, and all bodies fall at the same acceleration (ignoring air resistance)
You are right, though, that changing the gravitational force will change the weight of a body, but not its mass.
Sorry if that takes you too far back to A level Physics!

Hi, Chris!
I am happy with my knowing that changing the gravitational force will change the weight of a body, but not its mass!
I shall rest on my laurels…...

Struggling to parse this:

18A Likely for pet's vice to be fixed (11) - P?O?P?C?I?E

It has to be PROSPECTIVE but that isn't an anagram of FOR PET'S VICE.

Any insight would be welcome.
