I've never done this puzzle before so thought I'd give it a go, but, for the life of me, I can't seem to make sense of what it is their asking. For those without the paper, there is a 3x3 grid with the letters:-
E T H
F I G
O L D
The instructions are as follows:- George and Martha are tackling a Trackword problem which appears in a magazine. Nine letters are placed in a 3x3 grid and you have to work from one square to a neighbour, proceeding up, down, left, right or diagonally until all nine squares have been visited. You must start in the top-left corner. As an example, you can get the word EIGHTFOLD from the grid. George and Martha that would be interesting to work out how many possible routes there are which start in the top left corner.
My problem is that, as far I can tell, those letters only spell that one single word 'EIGHTFOLD' and, as the letters are always going to be in the same order, how can there be different 'routes' to spell out the word?
