Whilst last week's crossword was relatively straightforward, I wasn't able to completely understand the word play on one answer:

29a No longer married, masses cite singular feelings of joy! (9)

I have E??T?S?E? and assume the answer is ECSTASIES or possibly EXSTASIES (which Chambers indicates as obsolete).

I can see the obvious link to feelings of joy, and perhaps no longer married = EX but am unable to parse the remainder. It's likely I'm missing the obvious, but would be grateful for any suggestions.

I haven't checked, but if you take the M out of 'masses cite' (no longer married') and anagram it, do you get Ecstasies?

Yes of course, and many thanks!

Whilst I no longer submit this crossword, as I was fortunate to submit a winning entry a while ago, it irks me when I can't completely parse a clue!

Glad I could help. I was on a bus when I replied, with no access to pen and paper - I tried to juggle the letters mentally!
