Just caught the tail end of ths dialogue. Don't know if it's already been aired, but do you know the group term for skylarks? It's an exultation of skylarks - isn't that beautiful?

Hi AJT. This has been a very bizarre thread to which all sorts of odd birds have flocked in coveys, nyes, mobs, convocations and gaggles and yes, the one you like so much.
My favourite is an unkindness of ravens. Ruth Rendell used it as a title for one of her crime novels.

Hi Kookaburra,

Read a suggestion on another site that it is a Riot of Kookaburras?????

However, if you are taking about kookaburras in cricketing terms (balls) how about a Delivery of Kookaburras.

And hi from me Kookaburra - and I expect a parliament of owls has also been mentioned?

Back in the days when I was studying English literature, I read a work by Chaucer called "the Parliament of Fowls". I have also heard of a stare of owls. I often wonder who dreams up these collective nouns.

Chambers gives it for owls, but not fowls. Do you think Chaucer might have slipped in an extra f by mistake? Perhaps he just mishard it from someone if it was used as a group term is his day.
