Hello.

Here is a weedy cryptic clue leading to the curious but rather nice name of a South American bird:


  Instrument leads executive superpower to a 'good sound' overseas. (10,8)

The second letters of each word are 'i' & 'u' respectively.

Answering Anthea's query which was posted as I slept...
There's no official term for a group of kookaburras but their call sounds like peals of hysterical laughter. Perhaps a cackling or a cacophony or even a clamour ... but I think the rooks have already collared that one.
Now I must get back to the crossword. I'm still stuck on 456 D.
