but that doesn't sound very cryptic?

This clue appears to have been 'around' since 2007 and used many times by local papers

Thanks, Cerasus. I can't help feeling it's just a bit ... one-dimensional somehow! There's no real wordplay to tease out, just an unusual/not generally well-known definition for a slightly unusual word.

Some papers often give the option of using either the cryptic clues or 'quick' clues (with the same answer) The quick clue being "sweets" would confirm the correct answer
