Having difficulty parsing 9d. Frenchmen discarding brown suit. Have 5 letter solution meaning not ivory, but can mean brown but rest of clue does not seem to fit. Maybe I have gone etong. Any hints?

The 'Frenchmen' are from a particular part of France. You need to take off (the abbreviation for) 'brown'.

There IS an 'i' in 13 A, but not where it crosses 6D.
