33a. Early supper, dull one, including bit of both beef and veal ? (7) mea?te?

I'm guessing "meatted" - maybe matt(ed) for dull one with "e" from both beef and veal, or maybe something to do with "mead" + "tt" (old sup and dull supper reps.)

Not having a Chambers to hand is a hindrance :(

If anyone can enlighten, thanks...

Meat-tea/ Meattea - hyphens sometimes get missed out in crosswordland?

It will be 'meattea' - that's defined in Chambers as 'a high tea at which meat is eaten'. Chambers has the hyphen, I think the clue should have included it.

'Meatted' definitely isn't in Chambers.

Azed never includes hyphens in the clue, for some reason.
