Two that I don’t understand
Practice boxing in yard (4). I think it’s SPAR but don’t know why. Is spar a synonym for yard?

Make up for hesitation in matter and rest. (14). Counterbalance??

A Spar is a long pole or mast , as is a Yard

Matter - COUNT

Hesitation - ER

Balance - REST

6a: Yes, Anne Bradford's Dictionary gives "spar" as "yard"
so a double definition.
3d: yes , counterbalance = make up (def)
er- hesitation
count - matter
balance -rest
