Morning

Did this on train but I don't have my Chambers so can't confirm 4d.

Should be narcs or narks.

A shortening of narcosis - a diving sickness- would be narcs.

However I thought narks were experts. Need the big red book to confirm.

Anyone around to help?

Thanks

Daniel

Nark is both an expert and a diving sickness. I looked it up for you but haven't started the puzzle yet so I know one answer in advance!

narcs given as narcotics agents
nark(s) an informer "copper's nark", a policeman, a person who curries favour, a pick-thank, an annoying obstructive person........

Food for thought here. I'm stuck on the penitential garment-23D "penitential garment carried by saint to wit". Scapula and sackcloth don't help Maybe a garment is carried by st. A hint should certainly speed me to a conclusions.

Hi truron,
you're spot on with a garment being carried by st, definition "to wit". Think Opus Dei for the "garment".
