4d head is the defn .."s a t" leaves state ...leaving te...then repeat this = TETE

My guess was TETE but could not see wordplay.
Would not have got E-WASTE [without a look in Chambers (13th), which has it.]
I rely too much on TEA and Chambers PC based version from many years ago.
