I've just about finished this - got the theme and the names - but 14d is driving me mad.

Reptile scurried around ancient city, ushering in rampant chaos (9).

I have ?RCH?S??R and there might be a clash in there. I think N is the extra letter.

Archosaur. I think the N came from Ran,scurried.

Glad I helped. I can't remember where I confirmed it, but it has Ra(n), reversed, Ur,ancient city and Chaos,anagrammed, in between.

A + W (wife) + H (husband) plus GAPE with G extra. A Spenserian word!
