Got the songwriter and song too after the helpful 4,5,3 hint.
Went to my favourite version on youtube, and after hearing it, noticed Recommended For You showed a completely different song by a completely different performer - my favourite ever singer singing one of the standards she transformed from okay to wonderful by her superb treatment of it.

Was floating above the icre cream castles!

Hi Bunty, the n moves, as you say, so the clue becomes: The patter? Just skins sliding forward. 'The skins sliding' signals an anagram of the outer letters (or 'skins') of ThE PatteR, with 'forward' (pert) as the definition.
