Have completed the grid and found the phrase and it's definition. There's one clue I'm stuck on:
26dn: 'Put down revolutionary with Herodotus occasionally returning'
A letter T must be deleted from the answer before entry into the grid. Definitions refer to the full unmutilated answer and wordplay refers to the grid entry.
I have ?E?UDE. Perhaps 'red' is the revolutionary and the UDE from the 8th, 5th and 2nd letters of Herodotus which makes REDUDE but I'm stumped as to how one or more letter Ts would be added to form a word.
Any assistance gratefully received!
