Sorry for asking yet more, as I told Malone this morning, this is my first puzzle of this kind and try though I might, I can't lose 7 clashing cells.

Am I right in assuming that I can only put 2 letters in each call?
If 3 are allowed in one, I can resolve the problem.

If not, I can't.

Hi jazz lover, in the 6 instances where clashes occur between across and down clues the answers to both exceed the available grid cells and with 1 letter in every other cell the remaining letters of both answers are put in this cell and combine to give the thematic names before replacing with a cross. There is no restriction on the number of letters from either answer but a minimum of 2 in all cases.

Not sure what you mean ... there are 6 clashes. Each of the clashes has several letters from the across answer and several letters from the down answer. The "clash" letters make 6 names. (sometimes as many as 5 from a down bit or an across bit)
The clashes are in row 4, 6, 7, 2 in row 9 and row 10

Thanks so much.
Need to take another look at a couple of my shakier answers then, i think. But it's great fun.

Sudokulover - thanks so much for this hint. It meant I went straight to the right letters in the shakier answers - and suddenly, with a few more letters added - they made sense!
