Can't parse 15d, What shortbread might do in autumn all by itself (4,5).
With crossing letters I think it must be Fall Apart, but why? Fall = autumn, a part = all by itself, but does shortbread have a tendency to fall apart?

Short as in cooking especially pastry and dough terms means very crumbly and liable to fall apart.
