Really enjoyed this one though at first I thought it might beat me.
Only got a handful of clues on first pass with no idea where to place them. I then considered the theme and the penny dropped. I deduced the size of the squares and the length of the thematic anagrams. From there I could identify the position and length of all the non square clues, the position of the squares and lines - all without an answer in the grid.
The only thing that puzzled me was the colour of the squares as the grid did not seem to match any original I could find.
Then I solved the clues and all became clear.

I had Beepy's hesitation about the lengths of the four lines, but I now take 'in accordance with the thematic name' to refer to its own extent.

Finding myself a bit stuck - can somebody give me a clue to the depiction of magnetism one and the 3rd clue in square 3 - overlords?

Mandy, a Scottish block is a dit. Go wrong is err and acceleration is a.

I'm perplexed by the very first clue - Jacket remains with pop performer (two words). Thanks.

All clues solved except for penultimate of 'other clues'. Any hints appreciated. I assume that 'S?E?' is correct so far. Squares I take to be '3X3' , '4X4' and '5X5' for 1(Red), 2(blue), and 3(yellow). Cheers!
