I've only just tackled this puzzle. I found it quite difficult. Fortunately I guessed the thematic work after I had only four of the extra words, which made things a lot easier. Howevger, I was held up at the end by five very tricky clues, some of which have posed problems for others, I see.
Very good puzzle, exploiting the the title very thoroughly.

How does 28d work? In the grid I have CL?NG so assume the missing letter is i ?
