Late start this week, but one themed word and 2 clues to go, plus 21d. Would appreciate hints / help please.

26 ac Byron's daughter suggests ADA, doctored gin suggests ING, but if so, what's the other letter and who is the poet? Have A-A-I--.

23 d Habitual joker again hiding one in Edmund's bog - have PA-MO-RE.

12 ac For the first half: Have -HAR. Think it's CHAR.
Is singer Cher shortened (if that's what checking means?) In which case weapon is perhaps ARM? Or is weapon HARPOON and C stands for contralto?
But POON doesn't start one of the themed items, as far as I know.

For the second half have -URE. Think it's SURE, but how to parse the clue and what's left out? Stumped.

3 d Think I have it, but if the first half is the the Cheshire mountain-biking racecourse I think it is, how does European court probing give HARTH? (Assuming ill is grim).
Second half - have it I think, HEAT around D and an old feared race but what in the clue means to recruit?

Also any hints on how to find 21d would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks so much. Wagmoire makes perfect sense, but I was convinced 22a was Lop plus A, so couldn't see it. Guess it's cowa.

Adawing is impressive.

Can't see how HARE parses. Presume the long word is harewell?

Excuse me butting in, jazzlover. I've no longer got my copy, but I'm almost certain 22A was Mowa, a tree.

You're welcome anytime Malone! Mmm ... to cut down grass is to mow. To cut down a person is to cow them. Jury's out I'd say.

Would welcome any hints on the longer words for 12 across because it still stumps me. The clue was: Singer checking weapon daily undoubtedly considers coming round to nail pigheaded person dumping daughter. I've got the two short words, but the longer vesions? Hmm?

Is a Cowa a tree?

12 A gave Char MER and SEY Sure. (The first half is Cher, singer, with Arm, weapon. I can't remember how I got the second half, if I did!).

Thanks so much, Malone. That's a brilliant help. I can't see how the second half parses either, but can't think what else it might be.

As for cowa, acording to this, it is:

Thanks for that, jazzlover. I still prefer Mowa as it's in Chambers!

Thanks Malone. Chambers is a more reliable source, so I might go for that. Finished now, I think. Put out of my misery once again, thanks to yours and djawhufc's help.
