I'd come up with "adored" and was trying to fit in an alternative term for Hi-fi....
A "midi-system" came up as "a set of compact stacking hi-fi equipment components".

I'm a hi-fi snob, elle!

thanks for that - I initially had adored, and then nothing fitted with the HI-fi and midi system sounds more like it, (but the puzzle concerned does have a few things which are debateable over the years which I do along with a friend!!) I then had to look at the clue of Protective charm which I have changed now to talisman
