I'm left with 32 and can only find an Anglo-Saxon word which does not seem to me to fit the clue completely. Any hints would earn my undying thanks!

The clue is "Last to stay the course and displaying old-style go" (4)
I have "y-ed" and the OED has "yfed" or "yged" as possibilities. Both mean "eaten".
