Doing OK so far, but struggling with NE corner. Might suggest 14a and 27a as fairly easy ones to get you going. The words in this week's puzzle are not as obscure as usual, if that helps.

My problems are in the bottom right corner!, Answer to 30a would help - Bristly worm in stratum alongside river (8,2 words). Thanks

Farr, the definition is bristly worm and the word for "layer" is four letter one that a miner would use. Its first three letters form the first word of the solution. The last letter, plus an English river give the second word.

Glad to hear you're having another go, Liz. 1A starts with D. Anagram of gold around a word for indeed/yes.

Thanks Jack Aubrey. Reminds me of a joke which needs getting the accent right about the Scotsman visiting us here in Canada who was shown an animal in the forest and told it was a moose. He replied "Och aye...if that's a mo(u)se I'd hate to see yer cat".

Indeed, Farr. As a Scot with a brother in Canada I can confirm that the beasties we saw roaming the night-time streets of Banff (the one in Alberta, not Aberdeenshire) were very definitely not wee, tim'rous, sleekit or cowerin' !!!

Another case of me finishing the puzzle but being unable to parse a clue, in this case 24d I spy!. S?TTER.
I filled in setter on the grounds of 'I', but can't figure out the spy bit. (It's probably obvious, or even worse it's sitter and I've already posted it!)

Can anyone enlighten this idiot please?
