Each clue contains an extra letter

Pants for holy water with the object of infusing drinks (6).... extra is T
Short prison to hold not Spenser's writer (5) ... extra is H
Read triumphal call editor transmitted (7) ... extra is E

Typical... as soon as i post ... think the 1st one might be stoups (pans for holy water)

3. Radioed, transmitted - Read = Rad, the 'e' was extra, add IO, triumphal call and Ed, editor.

I'm not sure I've got the hang of this - must the letter be removed from the clue? That would make the second either SORT or OLD then?
However there are three Es in the last, and removing any of them would leave nonsense words.

Short prison...From crossing letters, I ended up with Penne, an old word for feather, so 'writer'.
